The routes to physical construction of a scheme are wide and varied depending on scale and source of funding.  The two key options are;

  1. Using the core information in the feasibility report, issue an Invitation to Tender (ITT) for the ‘design and build’ of the scheme.  This leaves the appointed contractor with the task of completing the design but also the opportunity to use their skills and experience to find efficient ways of going about the civils works.
  2. Carrying out the design phase and then issuing an Invitation to Tender (ITT) for the complete works or for elements of it.  In this way the sourcing of the turbine and associated mechanical and electrical components can be separated from the civils work, usually reducing the overall costs, but introducing an element of risk.
